One Pan Garlic & Butter Sausage Orzo Dinner

Why we love this meal so much:

This is a true one-pan meal, which means minimal prep and even less cleanup, always a win in my book! I love having a dinner option that’s both delicious and easy, especially on busy nights. Bonus: my toddler asked for seconds, and it’s packed with protein, which has been a huge plus while I’m breastfeeding and constantly craving something hearty and satisfying.

The garlic butter flavor is rich and cozy, and toasting the orzo takes this dish to the next level, adding a depth of flavor that makes it feel extra special. It’s also incredibly customizable, add onions or your favorite vegetables to make it your own. Brussels sprouts are a great option for boosting fiber and complementing the savory flavor profile. And if you’re feeling a little indulgent, a generous sprinkle of freshly grated Parmesan before serving adds a delicious, luxurious finish.

Ingredients

  • 1 Package Sweet Italian Sausage

  • 2.5 Cups of Chicken Broth

  • 1 Cup of Orzo

  • 3-4 Cloves of Garlic Minced

  • 2 Table Spoons of Butter

  • Salt - to taste

  • Black Pepper - to taste

Step by Step Instructions

  1. Brown the Sausage

    • Slice or crumble the sausage into smaller prices and cook in a large skillet over medium heat until fully browned and cooed through.

  2. Set Sausage aside (keep the drippings in the pan).

    • Transfer the cooked sausage to a plate or bowl and leave the rendered oil and browned bits in the pan for flavor.

  3. Add Butter & Garlic to the Pan.

    • Add 2 tablespoons butter to the skillet. Once melted, stir in the 3-4 cloves of minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds to 1 minute, just until fragrant.

  4. Toast the Orzo.

    • Add 1 cup of Orzo and stir constantly 2-3 minutes until it turns lightly golden brown. Scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan as you stir (that’s the good stuff!)

  5. Stir Sausage back in

    • Add the cooked sausage back into the pan and stir until warmed through.

  6. Season + Finish

    • Add parsley (fresh or dried) with salt and black pepper to taste.

  7. Plate and Serve.
